The Grand Adventures of Alex and Nicole

Written by Door51 Photography on Apr 18 2008 | Family

We celebrated our one year anniversary with a trip out East. We spent one day in Vegas, two at the Grand Canyon, and one in Page, AZ. Lots of sights and sounds in very little time! Lots of driving. We had a blast, but  now I have 500 pictures to sort through.

But let me start from the beginning…

We were up at 4am and after some long airport lines at SJC we finally got to Vegas. One convertible Eclipse later we drove to our hotel, took showers, and went for a walk.

No Vegas getaway is complete without a trip to a buffet, and after pigging out at an all-you-can-eat sushi place we went to visit the messenger of good fortune whose shape and countenance closely resembled ours (Nicole told me to speak for myself).

A nap, dinner, and a show later we stumbled back to the hotel and clocked out. Then, in the morning, we packed and headed out to see the Grand Canyon for the first time in our lives. When we got there – it was breathtaking!

We chose to go on the Sunrise tour – we figured it’ll be romantic and lend itself to some beautiful images. Waking up at four in the morning (again!) we considered that it may not have been such a great idea… but we went anyway. :0)

The sunrise was great.

We were freeeeeeeezing our butts off, but the scenery was beautiful!
We were cold!

After the tour we had a great breakfast at the nearby El Tovar historical hotel, admired the canyon for a while longer, and went on our way to Page, AZ - home of the Antelope Canyon - every photographer’s dream! The drive from the South rim of the Grand Canyon to Page, AZ was surreal. I can only compare it to driving on Mars. A large moon was hovering over  the red mountains amidst a deep blue sky. I couldn’t drive in a straight line I was so fascinated!

Once in Page, we discovered a treasure we didn’t even know existed. It’s called the Horseshoe Bend, and it was only a few miles from the hotel. Check this out!

It was absolutely amazing to see this with our own eyes. Pictures of this place were all over our hotel and we couldn’t believe it was that close! I think it deserves one more picture on this blog. Note Nicole sitting on the edge in the left one.

Our tour of the Antelope canyon was a night away. I’ve dreamt about going to this place for years, and my wish was finally coming true. It was a birthday gift to myself – and it was everything I hoped it would be. I just wish we had the time to do it all over again.

Needless to say, it was amazing!
