Last week I attended a talk by a well-respected and much loved Hollywood photographer, Joe Buissink. In his talk, he spoke about the joys and advantages of being a “second shooter” at a wedding. “In fact”, he says, “I’m the second shooter at all of my weddings.”

A fellow photographer, Julie Weisberg, generously asked me to be a second shooter for the wedding of Cindy and Nick, and I was happy to oblige. As a second, I got to focus on the details and the in-between moments of the wedding, and walked away with many wonderful photographs, some of which you’ll see below.

How much you enjoy a wedding is largely affected by the people you’re photographing. Nick and Cindy made this wedding magical. They are both easy going, friendly, and in love. Their wedding party filled with ever more entertaining, wonderful people.

Christina & Jerry {Engaged in San Francisco}

I met Christina and Jerry at the Caffe Greco. It was my first time at this cafe, and it felt genuinely “San Francisco” – vintage posters, sliding windows, great lattes, and sweet deserts. We talked about how they met and shared our relationship theories. We started the engagement shoot by taking a few photos inside and out of the cafe, where I bravely risked my life for art by shooting from the road. =0)

On the way to the cable cars we took advantage of every bench and flower-kissed brick wall. Christina and Jerry were a little shy, but did a great job despite all the people walking by. The cold air did not let us forget that we’re in San Francisco.

More than anything, Christina wanted photos with the Golden Gate bridge in the background. With her help, we found just the spot she had in mind! Jerry and I did our best to lift the fog off the bridge…

A great time was had by all. =0)

Mariela and Robert {Married at Villa Montalvo}

Mariela and Robert’s wedding took place at one of our favorite locations – Villa Montalvo Art Center in Los Gatos, California. This historic and beautiful location is rich in scenic backgrounds and dramatic light.

The Love Temple at the villa was the perfect place for the bride and groom to lay their eyes on each other for the first time, and offered many photo opportunities. The ceremony was emotional and sweet, and later everyone enjoyed themselves to the sounds of the mariachi band and the open bar.

Precious and Blooming Floral Design did an excellent job with the flowers, and Mariela’s wedding planner, Amy (Twitterpated Weddings) was a pleasure to work with as well.

Mellanie and John {Engaged in San Jose}

I love them! Really, I do. There was jumping, dancing, flirting, kissing, kung fu fighting, and everything in between. Everyone had a blast. Mellanie and John have such great chemistry going, it’s an absolute pleasure to be around them.

We strolled the streets of downtown San Jose and took advantage of all the picturesque places along the way. We played tennis and rolled around in the grass. We, my dear friends, had an awesome engagement shoot.

Lena & Mike {Maternity}

You may remember Mike and Lena from their colorful San Francisco engagement shoot, or the romantic Half Moon Bay wedding. Well… they are expecting… any day now. And we’re excited for them! So excited, in fact, that we did this shoot as a present to them. And it was a joy working with them again. Being around their cuteness makes anyone want to go home and kiss up their {insert relationship status here}.

Let’s all wish them an easy delivery and a healthy baby boy!
